Collection Appraisals and Acquisitions

Do you have a collection but don’t know if it is worth anything?  We can come to you to assess your collection to give you an approximate value of what you have.  Our fee is $40/hour (minimum 1 hr), plus travel expenses if you are not within 30 minutes of Boca Raton, FL.  This can include itemized valuations for higher end pieces and generalized valuation for entire collections.  Please contact us here with a general description of what you have and where you are located.

If you are doing this for insurance purposes, please know that this will be a timely (and costly) transaction, as we will have to take the time to produce detailed support of the value to provide the insurance company with.

If you are doing this looking to sell your collection, you have to decide what your goal is.

If you’re looking to maximize your profits, you’ll have to be ready to put the time and effort into it to sell your collection off one piece at a time.  The best way to do this is to either set up as a vendor at a local card show or sell online via eBay, Facebook Marketplace, Facebook Groups, OfferUp, Craigslist, or other online marketplaces.  For higher-priced items, you can also utilize consignment sellers who will handle the work for you for a fee.

If you are motivated to quickly clear space and save as much time as possible, a bulk sale is your best route…but expect buyers to only be willing to pay pennies on the dollar if it’s a larger collection that includes a lot of base cards.  This is because there’s more that goes into coming up with a purchase price of a collection than just the value of the cards.  The size of the collection plays a big factor.  Hidden costs such as transporting the collection, storage space to house it, and labor costs to sort and price the pieces out have to be taken into account.  Other factors include how long the buyer may be sitting on the cards before they are able to move them based on the demand of the player/product which can lead to extended storage time/costs and the potential loss of value if the demand drops on the items.

In some cases, we may be interested in acquiring your collection but will do our best to guide you to some options if we aren’t interested in it.

Lastly, don’t let online influencers fool you.  Card collecting has largely become a gambling enterprise.  It is not easy to make good money buying/selling sports cards.  Only a small percentage of collectors have the drive and knowledge to make it a profitable business venture, and more than half the time that we are asked to look at a collection, it ends up being “Junk Era” cards that have little to no value due to the mass-production of 80’s and 90’s cards.  That being said, we believe all cards have value, and hate to hear about cards being thrown away, so please contact us before you get to that point!
